The 2nd Stepped Gable

Introduction:

This second step gable will be the counterpart of the first step gable. I used a fine drawing from the Amsterdam Archives once again. The gable in the middle is the one I want to do.

The cutting process:

Lets jump in at a the point where I finished drawing the basic lines on the façade and do my first cuts. Again I used a plaster cast from a styrodur form that already had the basic elevations in it as well as the steps on top.

The middle piece has to be lowered first to get the decorative trim sticking out of the wall. The windows are cut back a few mm and I repeat this on the top floor and the ground floor.

A major leap where I cut back the windows on the first floor even more adding a wooden frame in the window opening and let the future doors underneath the windows stick out a bit.
The top windows and hatches are already done. And the windows in the middle are ready for scratching.

The doors underneath the windows are cut back a bit so the horizontal planks do stick out.

During the cutting process the ground floor broke off. This became too thin after I tried to adjust this part. After cutting the windows I realized that I had to add hatches that stick out more. The only option was to cut back the whole ground floor apart from the future hatches. I ended up casting the ground floor piece once again.

Very pleased with the final result Before casting the façade in resin decorative plates on the steps of the gables as well as cramp irons on the walls will be added first.
