On this "Tips & Tricks" page I like to tell you more about the way I work. How I design my projects and built them, paint my models, make conversions,
make moulds and other fun stuff. I have quite some experience on building and painting stuff. Since there is so much to write about,
I’ll try to take one item at the time and hope to add new subjects on this page at a regular bases.
My Workplace:
Not realy an update that might qualify as a "Tips & Tricks" topic but I thought it would be nice to show you my workspace.
Rotocast Form:
After building my rotocast machine I started making rotocast forms in order to test the machine.
In this article you can read about the results so far.
Rotocasting:
A next development in the hobby is the use of the rotocasting technique.
Still in the experimental phase although I believe this is the logical next step in casting with resin for me.
I believe I can speed up the casting process and make better casts with this technique.
Using Temporary Casting Forms:
Sculpting projects out of plaster is fun but also time consuming.
Why not speed up the proces a bit using temporary casting forms for your plaster parts.
You might as well build in some detail in the casting form that saves you time during the sculpting process.
Detail Casting Tips:
When you want to cast detailed pieces out of plaster it is most likely that you will not get good results when you cast these items as you normally do
when casting regular building blocks. Fortunately there is a technique that makes it possible to get detailed casts from tiny detailed ornaments and such.
With the right approach and the right tools it is actually very simple.
Tree Trunks, Roots and Fungi:
In real live, looking at ruined structures, you frequently see that nature is slowly taking control over the remains. Moss, grass, plants trees, they all
tend to settle down in the more fertile corners of the structure. So why not use this in your projects as well?
Making Roofs:
I am certain that there are lots and lots of easier ways to make roofs than the roofs I show over here. On the other hand, making roofs like this will
lead to great compliments and declarations of total insanity. If you have lots of time and do not want to spend money on making roofs then you might like
this approach.
Storing Miniatures:
How to store your precious, priceless, non-replaceable miniatures/armies in a way that you are certain they survive their
journeys. (This will not guarantee they will survive your battles)
Banners & Flags:
Banners and flags are colourful assets to an army and also can add atmosphere to buildings. Making banners is relatively
easy if you know how. I guess most of you know how, but here I show you how I make them.
Making Islands:
How to make your own 3D Islands for your “Pirates of the Spanish Main” table top game.
A cheap and quick way of making islands using simple tools and cheap materials, explained in a step by step method.
In the “project” topic you can find lots examples of islands.
