The Ruined House

The Ruined House is a simple rectangular building. If you really want to make a city that looks like a city, you have to built a number of small houses, even smaller than this one. With these small houses you can design a real city plan, making streets and squares. When I first played a game on my city table it was clear that there where only large single object on the table. Although they all fit right into a city, its the houses in between that combine the single objects into a real city plan.

The house measures 8,5 by 5,5 inch and is 6 inch high. The base of the structure (like all structures) is a piece of foam board of 3mm (1/8 inch) thick. The walls are made using the fieldstone blocks from the fieldstone wall mold and the fieldstone accessory mold. The floors are made from the wooden plank mold and the flagstone tiles mold.

The wooden planks are also based upon 3mm foam board and can be removed for easy access. To make the floor look ruined just take a pair of pincers and let your imagination do the rest. The broken tiles are also ruined with pincers. The remaining gaps on the floor were filled with glue and sand/gravel to suggest a soil like structure.

Some alternative parts:

A few parts of the structure are modified in a way that I made a mold out of them. I do this with parts that come out handy in future projects. To make ruined wall sections is a time consuming activity. That is why I made a set of ruined stones and made a mold out of them. As you might have seen, I use them a lot in other projects.

The floortiles mold is the first mold I made. Actually it’s not that interesting because you will not frequently use these tiles. This also goes for the wooden plank mold I made although this one is more interesting while you can split the planks into pairs This makes them a bit more usable.
