Introduction: End of April I had a long weekend with the family. Apart of all the socializing I also managed to sculpt two warehouse facades. Both casts where made the same day so I could bring both along together with my sculpting gear. The first warehouse is actually a straight forward piece with 3 stories that all look alike. Since it was more a copy paste project the cutting was rather easy and quick. It was however the first facade on which I used the more detailed temporary casting method. I made a foam casting form where doors and windows where already cut out in the form itself. This saved a lot of time during the sculpting process. sculpting: The first warehouse has a spout gable which was quite common for warehouses. After this facade was finished I noticed that I wasn't too happy with the overall look of it. I miss detail in the doors and window hatches. I had to add horizontal planks as well. I will add them before I make a silicone form out of it. Below you see some examples of spout gables. The second warehouse is more interesting. I did not make any pictures during the sculpting process so you have to do with the final result right away. Here I did add horizontal planks on the big doors. I also added a shop on the ground floor which breaks the repetitive form. This facade has a bell gable shape. Also a very common gable type but not only for warehouses. The bell gable was used for dwelling houses as well. In this case the bell gable was well decorated as where the warehouse gables where modest.A nice example of a modest and more decorated bell gable can be seen in the picture below. The two facades will form one of the houses to be. Back to the Amsterdam canal main page Back to the Amsterdam canal project page Back to the Projects page Back to SHIFTINGLANDS Back to the top
