With the pavement being finished I decided I needed some lampposts to go with it. I started with the 28 mm scale lampposts of “West Wind Miniatures”. They did not fit as well as expected. The posts look too modern and they are a bit too small for my taste so I decided to make them myself. In this first picture you see the basic lamppost. Compared to that I also show the metal one so you can compare the scale. I used a round piece of balsa wood which I put in the drill. I then sanded the wood in a way that it gets slightly thinner towards the top. I did this as well on the lower as on the upper part of the lamppost. The top of the lantern was cut out of a piece of plaster and finally I used some rope to seal off and decorate the three parts. (upper, middle and lower parts) To make the lamppost strong I cast along a metal bar that runs through the entire lamppost. A part is sticking out underneath which is ideal for now I can simply stick the lamppost on its place in the pavement. Next I spiced up the lantern by adding belaying pins (the pins that were used to tie up ropes on sailing vessels). I just glued the two pins on the post. Drilling tiny holes is not an option because of the metal bar that runs through it. Again I decided to pimp up the lamppost by adding a small banner. As a test I made one out of thin metal and rope. I liked the final result and decided to add banners on all the six lampposts. Step one is cutting the thin metal banners, step two is adding the pieces of rope with superglue. Step four is basecoat the metal and bending the banners into the desired forms and step 5 is painting and assembling them. Finally A picture of the stages: Back to the Projects page Back to SHIFTINGLANDS Back to the top
