Emst 2003, the annual fantasy wargame weekend

4,5 and 6th of April this year the annual wargame weekend in Emst was a fact. Held in a semi rich forest area. On a little camping with a large hall (where we played in) and a very nice bar where we could weep, feast, morn, fight and celebrate our victories and defeats over some nice cool barrels of Grimbergen Beer. Special brewed by local monks to celebrate our annual appearance and disappearance in this area.

A final shot of the trophy I won last year before I throw it into my car! It took me half a day to find this piece of rubble but finally I found it in a box that is stashed with junk for an upcoming garage sale. It is a shame to win this “Evil Dude Award” since I am known as a Jolly good Fellow Elf! Shame on the organization of Emst 2002!!!

OK the car is packed, so lets go to Emst!

And yes here are the first guests of the weekend. Since we all see each other once a year some look older, some look wiser, some still stupid and some even as if they have lost some weight! First rituals when coming to Emst is to nick all the table tennis tables from the camping to use as gaming tables. I had to slice a piece off from this photo because at the right there where some children crying over their confiscated table.

And see here one of my fine opponents from the Realm of the Easterlings (Kind of bunny clan I guess) that is still having happy thoughts while unpacking his undead army.

Tension is rising. All of the contestants have arrived. Army lists are worked out, tactics are thought over again and disturbance of think work is not appreciated. (look he’s irritated!)

The battle this year is played after following the route of the one ring as we see it in the first “LOTR” movie. A small party is walking over all the tables and working out their own treasure hunt. All the battles have effect on this hunt since the way the battles are turning out the party or the dark lord will benefit from it during this ring hunt.

Some of the places where battles are being fought are Moria, Lothlorien, Hobbiton and the ruined city near Mordor as you see on these photo’s. The battles are fierce and furious. Leads to many discussions, beer and laughter.

Traditional we have a live roleplaying game on Saturday evening. The City Brawl is a RPG where all players have their own character, with their own behavior and quest. One group has the task of defending a virgin, another group has the task of doing naughty things with the virgin. Players place their character on the gaming table and first of all a funny presentation round starts where people try to tell the others in their own way who they are and what they do and/or must do.

So here are some of the weird characters of the game: Hi I’m a priest of a rival church come and join me in my holy race around the church!

I forgot what he was doing but this fellow is always creeping and crawling all over the place (I guess that’s his destiny)

Well fellow citizens, come to my holy race instead, mine is better (this calls for a serious fight)

Please do not bother me or I will smash your head in

Hi I am looking for the holy virgin but first I would like to have a haircut somewhere is this possible?

Wooooooh order in my city. Since I’m the kobold city guard I do not tolerate any violence or illegal contests in MY CITY! He did not survive the first round.

Hi, let me be your sewer guide. Stay close or you will never see daylight again.

Hi I think I’m more beautiful than this virgin so I will take her place…… brrrrrrrrrr

The lady of the house! A real shampoo lover she wants to smell everyone’s hair….

Conversation is being made, contests are starting to enfold. Fighting is at hand. This always goes in a friendly way as the two at the table demonstrate. The strange guy with the shawl that’s me…..Yep I’m coming out, its me, the weird Geboom. Haven’t got a clue who the guy in the back of the photo is. I think he’s one of the bartenders.

The second day is again a day full with battle action. Some continue their fights and others start new ones. To give you an impression here are some more shots of the battles we have fought.

On this day I fought a battle against an impressive army consisting out of lots of chariots. An interesting battle that ended up with a draw. It delivered some fine photo’s as you can see.

And finally the awards were given to the most jolly and most annoying player of this weekend. The Jolly good fellow trophy went to the nice evil player (this sounds very strange I know) In the photo he is so emotional that he is crying his eyes out. (he’s hiding behind the guy that holds up the trophy) The Evil dude award went to two players this year. Both from the ring hunt. The guy that played Frodo destroyed the ring and that was evil since he did break something that did not belong to him. The other guy played the evil king, he kicked Frodo also in Mount Doom (nasty move).

I know this is all hard to understand for those that do not play these kind of games. I placed this page especially for my fellow wargamers so they can look back at this event and smile over it again. Until next year guys.
