City Plan

The “City Plan" is a project that consists out of 16 floor tiles, forming a square playing surface of 64”. The idea behind this is to be able to make different lay outs for table top games to add more variety to game play.

The size of the city plan is made in such a way that it is possible to reach your miniatures easily. To determine if this is so, you must be able to reach the centre of the table and a bit beyond as well without performing hazardous stunts.

Although the table is fine for game play, I do miss the fact that there is no elevation within the plan. I guess this will be a future project.

The floor tiles are made out of 16 inch square pieces of wood of about half an inch thick. The actual floor was made out of plaster casts using several silicone molds from Hirst Arts Castlemolds ™.

The tiles where painted using a black basic spray paint as a base colour. A range of acrylic colours was used next on the different types of stone and wood structures on the tiles. An acrylic spraying can of varnish was used to harden the playing surface of the tiles.

The 16 tiles that make up the city plan:

On some tiles you’ll notice some ruined sections. Pliers will do the trick. Fill these areas up with foam board, glue, and sand/gravel. The right choice of color makes it look like a wasted area. Nice asset is that before adding sand, first push some bones or artifacts into the glue. On the second tile, if you look closely, you’ll see a skeleton with spear that I’ve added.
