The Amsterdam Canal Project page

Introduction:

From this page you can jump to the individual parts of the Amsterdam Canal Project. I have lots of plans for this project but I am not sure how the project will evolve. I will try to add all progress on to this page, adding new pages when new parts of the project are done, extend excisting pages and paste pages with others. I hope to add a lot of interesting content for the next few month at least.

The facades:

"The 2nd Wooden Gable"

At first I disliked the basic form of this facade. During the sculpting process the facade became more and more interesting. In the end I even made a interesting discovery, going through my old pictures of Amsterdam.

"The 2nd Stepped Gable"

An elegant facade with modest decorative elements such as masoned arches and the alternative upper steps of the gable.

"The 2nd Baroque Facade"

"The One Day Project" is the nickname of this second baroque facade. I sculpted this facade in one day and documented the progress from start to finish.

"The Two Warehouse Facades"

The two warehouse facades that will form a single house. The Amsterdam Canal series isn't complete without warehouses.

"The Neck Gable "

The fifth facade in this series is a Neck Gable. A fun piece tu sculpt with a new challenge; The cutting of decorative elements.

"The Stepped Gable "

The sculpting process on the fourth façade is done. A medieval one this time dating back to 1623. Time to show the four facades as a set to get an idea how the future skyline of this project will look like.

"The Fodor House "

The third façade is cut. A relative modern one this time (date back to 1863). It is also one of the bigger facades I cut so far. Since it is a museum you can actually pay this house a visit if you happen to visit Amsterdam.

"The Medieval Wooden House "

The second facade in the planned series is done. This façade is a late medieval one. I used two still existing houses for this project. One that you can find in Amsterdam and another one that you can find in the city of Mechelen, Belgium. With 270 tiny window pains cut by hand makes me wonder…. Am I crazy?!

"The Baroque Facade"

Finishing the fantasy based houses it is time to extend the series in a slightly different way. Recently I came across this huge database of original drawings of houses in the digital archives of the city of Amsterdam. I plan to work from these drawings and extend the harbour skyline with more realistic houses.
